4 Tips For Art And Design In Denmark
COPENHAGEN
Copenhagen Contemporary
Start your day in Copenhagen on Paper Island. Located just a jump away from Nyhavn, the inner cities old harbour, Papirøen - as it’s called in Danish - is home to Copenhagen’s art museum for large scale contemporary installations: Copenhagen Contemporary.
Copenhagen Contemporary’s Art Bar furnished with Slice tables and MyChairs.
Currently offering a program of Virtual Reality experiences, Yoko Ono’s wish trees and much more, there is not only something to explore for the eyes and the ears, but also the taste buds. Step next door into the adjacent Art Bar, for a drink or a light lunch - waterfront view included.
Danish Design Museum
After Lunch, you can take one of Copenhagen’s yellow water taxis across the harbour, over to the Danish Design Museum. Their current exhibition Danish Design Now, offers an extensive overview over Danish design in the 21st century. The exhibit showcases over 300 products and designs of Danish origin.
Among the many designs, you can find our award-winning Form chair, Geo collection, Mormor series and Craft series, in context to design tendencies within product, graphic, fashion and architectural design of the past century.
The exhibit has also been curated into a hardcover book under the same name.
KOLDING
In Southern Denmark, Kolding offers an experience of visual art, crafts, design and furniture design - all under one roof!
Trapholt
What does food mean to us? EAT ME is about how we understand ourselves and the world through food. The exhibition includes painting, photo, sculpture, video and installation by over 60 artists and designers that make us look, hear, smell and feel.
Central to the exhibition is a large sensory table, where museum guests can take a seat on 28 different contemporary Danish designer chairs and take part in a guided taste experience. Take a seat on Simon Legald’s Form chair, and try to eat with a meter-long fork, or feel how taste can be influenced by the sounds surrounding you.
AARHUS
Continue your journey to Aarhus, the European Capital of Culture 2017, where you can find two exhibits well worth a visit!
New Danish Modern
Continue your journey to Aarhus’ waterfront, where you can find our Normann Cutlery in the Reflections exhibition located at O-Space. As a part of New Danish Modern, the temporary exhibit presents a dialogue between Danish design heritage and new Danish designs, manifested in four boxing rings.
Featured in these 'duels’ are classic design pieces in combat with new design products, through which the exhibit shows how Danish design DNA can be traced in furniture and products through time.
