Tube Lounge Chair
Designed by Normann Copenhagen’s Danish head designer, Simon Legald, Tube Lounge Chair draws inspiration from the Memphis design style that originated in Italy in the 1980's. A style distinguished for its bold shapes and geometric lines and for celebrating exuberance and playfulness. A marriage of these playful references and the minimalism of its Danish heritage, Tube presents an inherently bold design with contrasting shapes and materials, nevertheless expertly executed in a simplistic, timeless manner.
At the heart of the design lies the captivating interplay between soft and solid elements. Two over dimensioned glass blasted steel tubes form the distinctive frame of the chair, elegantly bending to follow the organic curvature of the generously padded seat. The extended backrest offers the ability to sit back and rest your head, while building on the visual experience of a comfortably padded seat designed for complete relaxation. This architectural framework prioritizes comfort without compromising on aesthetics. Inside, a plywood frame enveloped in layers of foam and wadding promises durability and comfort, while the upholstery offers a multitude of possibilities for personal expression within a diverse range of premium leather or textile options.
Simon Legald
Simon Legald graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large scale products. Simon's designs are often created in a dialogue between craftsmanship and industry. He also likes to incorporate the techniques that are necessary for the structure of a product into the design by highlighting them visually.
"Honesty is what makes a product understandable and is what describes the products functionality. If you understand the product, it does not need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore, it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects and makes them trustworthy. In my design, I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression."
