Studio Visits – Normann Copenhagen’s Design Studio

Nestled in the heart of Copenhagen, Normann Copenhagen's headquarters is home to a dynamic design studio led by Simon Legald, Head of Design. Together with a talented team of designers, including Yuchen Wu, Simon oversees a collaborative space where innovation and craftsmanship come together to create designs that stand the test of time.

The design studio is a hub of creativity, featuring a vast material library brimming with peculiar objects, material samples, and keepsakes from production visits around the world. A curtain along one wall conceals shelves brimming with 3D models and sketches of upcoming projects, embodying the exploratory spirit that drives Normann Copenhagen's work.

Simon Legald emphasizes the importance of maintaining Normann Copenhagen’s design DNA of minimalistic lines with a playful twist while fostering an environment where creativity can thrive. "We aim to create designs that are forward-thinking but approachable – objects that people will cherish for a lifetime," says Simon. "This studio is where ideas are shaped and refined into designs that resonate with people."

Yuchen Wu, one of the studio's full-time designers, shares Simon's dedication to crafting timeless designs. "For me, design is about balance – between aesthetics and usability, and between the story and the technical execution," Yuchen explains. "Each piece begins with a narrative, often inspired by observing how people interact with design in everyday life."

The studio’s collaborative ethos extends to its commitment to exploring more responsible materials and production methods. From ideation to production, every step is examined to assess if and where choices can be made to lower the product’s environmental impact. "We consider sustainability a driver of creativity," Yuchen notes. "It challenges us to innovate and reimagine materials and processes in meaningful ways."

With every design, Normann Copenhagen stays true to its mission of creating objects that transcend trends. As Simon aptly puts it, “Our goal is to design objects that feel as relevant in 10 years as they do today, always fueled by the joy and curiosity that define our work.”
