About

Fold Lounge Chair

Designed with the goal of making something complex appear very simple, Fold merges a strong, bold character with a minimalist geometric expression. The idea for Fold Lounge Chair arose when a simple piece of paper was cut and folded to resemble a chair, resulting in a unique, unprecedented design. Designer Ole Petter Wullum elaborates: “My initial sketch was a simple piece of paper easily folded into a chair. The most sympathetic and unique thing about this sketch was that you immediately understood the shape and why it had become that way. So simple yet still full of character”.

By reducing the concept of a chair to the bare minimum, Fold introduces new perspectives to modern lounge chairs with its straight, folded edges. The chair’s silhouette is shaped by five simple folded lines, seamlessly integrating a tilted back and armrests that recline slightly with bodily movement, infusing the design with expression and comfort. “Careful angulation of the back and armrests allows the chair to open up, extending its arms towards the user in a friendly, welcoming gesture, giving it a dynamic and sculptural expression,” explains Ole Petter Wullum.

Ole Petter Wullum

Ole Petter Wullum was born in Trondheim, Norway in 1965. After completing his studies at the Norwegian Academy of Arts and Crafts in Oslo, he established his own design studio, where he still works today in the areas of architecture, furniture, and objects.

Ole's design philosophy revolves around creating emotionally driven contemporary designs that exhibit a significant degree of minimalism and approachability. His aim is to develop new, soft-spoken, and minimal objects that can effortlessly blend into daily life, serving not only as functional objects but also as aesthetic expressions of Nordic culture. His design process primarily focuses on the systematic and intuitive search for the solution “where everything comes together in a balanced and effortless whole”.

Ole’s inspiration stems mostly from everyday life. By viewing everyday life through a new, playful lens, he can uncover new concepts and ideas. It is also the ideation phase in the design process that makes his heart beat a bit faster.
