Production Visits - Pine Wood

At Normann Copenhagen, we strive to take responsibility for the impact of our operations on people and the environment. A commitment that is reflected in our collaboration with carefully selected suppliers and how they work with materials.

Responsible sourcing of pine wood

Our pine wood collections, including the Fyr Stool, Plank Bookcase, Stretch Bench and Notch Bed Frame, are crafted from full-length pine planks sourced from a Finnish supplier dedicated to safeguarding biodiversity. This supplier’s efforts to preserve forests, enhance carbon storage, and ensure 100% traceability of raw materials align with our core values of quality and responsibility.

Regenerative forestry

Committed to the principles of regenerative forestry that aims for more vibrant, diverse and climate-resistant forests, our pine wood supplier uses the renewable raw pine wood responsibly and efficiently. Their dedication to safeguarding biodiversity ensures the long-term vitality of forests. Through measures like adding decaying wood to ecosystems, diversifying tree species and implementing thousands of biodiversity-enhancing actions, they actively protect valuable habitats for endangered species, promoting a thriving natural environment.

Minimizing environmental impact

To mitigate climate change, this supplier reduces fossil-based carbon dioxide emissions to zero and relies exclusively on fossil-free fuels, electricity, and raw materials. In addition, they contribute to enhancing carbon storage by increasing the production of long-lasting wood products, such as Normann Copenhagen’s series of products crafted from pine wood.

Optimizing resources

The pine wood is harvested from the supplier’s regenerative pine forests in Finland and processed at their local sawmills and pulp mills. These mills support each other by creating synergies that optimize resource use and minimize waste. Their focus is on the mutual benefits of combining the production processes, such as utilizing by-products from sawmills as raw materials for pulp production, effectively enhancing the sustainability of both mills’ operations and supporting their commitment to the principles of circular economy.

Ensuring 100% traceability of raw materials and sourcing over 90% certified wood, this supplier maintains rigorous standards of responsibility.

By working with suppliers who share our commitment to environmental stewardship, we continue to create timeless designs while contributing to a more sustainable future.
