Studio Visits - Aspekt Office

Once home to a wine label printing operation, the space was stripped of its industrial past and transformed by Hans and Terkel into a minimalist, light-filled workshop. “We wanted the space to feel like a blank canvas,” Hans explains, “somewhere ideas could flow without distraction.” Shelves now hold prototypes, material samples, and tools, reflecting the duo’s experimental design process, which blends sketching, model building, and material exploration.
Though compact, the studio is rich in character, with shelves lined with prototypes, material samples, and tools that fuel the team’s intuitive design process. It’s a place where collaboration, creativity, and curiosity thrive – qualities that Hans and Terkel credit to both their surroundings and their close-knit team. Despite its small size, the studio serves as a platform for their experimental design method, blending sketching, model building, and material exploration.
The duo’s work is driven by a shared philosophy: to create accessible, timeless designs that balance function and aesthetics. “We design for ourselves first,” Terkel notes. “If we can live with it, use it, and love it, chances are others will too.” This user-focused approach results in pieces that are both playful and refined, marrying conceptual thinking with practicality.
The studio’s location in Vesterbro is more than just a convenience – it’s an integral part of Aspekt Office’s identity. Surrounded by the neighborhood’s creativity and vibrancy, Hans and Terkel draw inspiration from the energy of their community. While the growing team occasionally dreams of more space, the charm of their basement studio and the proximity to some of Copenhagen’s best coffee bars and bakeries keeps them rooted. “There’s something about this area,” Terkel reflects, “it’s hard to imagine working anywhere else.”
For Normann Copenhagen, Aspekt Office designed the Let Stool and Barstool – a minimalist reinterpretation of classic stool typologies. Its clean, original design draws inspiration from the bar culture of the studio’s Vesterbro neighborhood, echoing the parallel planks of traditional wooden beer crates. Staying true to Aspekt Office’s aesthetic, the Let series is simple, functional, and thoughtfully crafted – a perfect embodiment of their design philosophy.
Aspekt Office’s studio is more than just a workspace; it’s a reflection of their values and an incubator for their ever-evolving creative process.
